Turn a smartphone into a microscope
Can we imagine how we can look at very small things clearly like an ant’s jaws are very tiny writings. You can also have a close look how the cloth is knit. Yes you can do that very easily without using a proper microscope but you would wonder, with the smartphones. The smartphone cameras are so efficient that the close up view of very small things can be shot showing minutest details. It does not take extra lens but surprisingly only a single drop of water will do this wonder of extra lens.
You will need a smartphone with auto focus feature and it should not have manual control option.
The best Android camera apps and best iPhone camera apps are also helpful.
Some support to hold the smartphone at about a quarter of an inch above a flat surface.
A flashlight or similar light source is recommended.
A few drops of water.
Steady hands and patience.
Now start the magical operation. Dip your finger in the water to form a drop at finger’s tip, touch the drop to the lens of your phone’s camera and place a small drop. It should be a small drop and extra water should be absorbed. Be careful to put this drop in the center of the lens.
Now put the camera in position straight above the object. Now the drop of water will act as lens and will focus properly on the object at a very short distance. You will see the object focused very clearly and magnified. This in fact is taking advantage of natural quality of water in drop shape and will compensate for an extra lens required.
Now capture the image and you will be surprised to see a very clear magnified image of the object. It maybe very small in size, but the focus through water drop will magnify the image and capture it with your smartphone camera. When you want to view the image you can further enlarge the view to get even bigger and better look at the picture of a very small object. You will be shocked to see the very tiny jaw of an ant and how perfectly it operates like the most perfect machine. Even the knee joints of an ant can be examined through this view and the structure of the knee joint carrying weight many times more than weight of the ant it self. A drop of water can do this wonder.
