Users are already familiar with Nokia’s “Cortana” and Apple’s “Siri” and “Google Now”. There is no doubt that these agents are full of information and users just need to command them and these agents get active and start providing the relevant information to the users. Recently some sources held the competition between these three smart agents and in the competition they asked more than 3000 same questions to each agent. The main purpose of this testing was to know the efficiency of every agent and to see how much they are skillful and how much they are smart and full with information and knowledge. After testing, the results are shocking; Google won the battle of knowledge.
The study included a test as to how many and how relevant answers were provided to the users by the agents. In this case “Google Now” displayed the query answers in shape of a card and also the other search results 58% times. Siri displayed the same result containing knowledge base but much less than Google. It showed the accuracy in 29% ratio with the questions asked; Cortana lacked far behind and showed only 20% relevant results. It depended exactly on formatting the contextual information and also with the frequency of correct and complete answers provided to the questions. Google Now surpassed the other competitors with a big difference; double or more correct answers and won the test.
Google Now did the wonderful job by providing 88% complete and correct answers. Unfortunately Siri could provide only 53% correct and complete answers. As a participant in the competition Cortana performed the lowest with 40% correct answers. Let us see how the test was conducted. A sample question “How old is the Great Wall of China?” The correct answer “2220 years old” was considered acceptable. If it gave any other answer, it was not considered complete reply for example, “Great Wall was built in 206 BC”. Well we may accept that Google Now was provided with more information and knowledge cards yet 88% accuracy under the strict terms is something near perfection and quite impressive.
Nokia Cortana maybe given the benefit of being new but we know it searches the answers from the knowledge base in Bing and this knowledge base is not new. It is established since 2009. This is discouraging that Cortana providing answers from Bing is still behind Apple. Apple shows more accuracy in this despite the fact it does not have its own search engine. Despite this short coming it is ahead of Cortana with more accuracy of 53%.
The test or the competition was based on getting the answers to relevant to knowledge based questions and not the ability of each program. In other functions like setting reminders, changing phone settings, managing your calendar, sending messages and more, the strength and weaknesses of each and nothing to do with the knowledge based.
This was not at all a test of technical performance and functionality. The test contain the point of interest for the users to get the correct answers to the quires they may be having and might be interested in getting the right answer for them.
